Viking House History

Daniel O’Donnell, the internationally-known singer and musician from Kincasslagh, purchased the Viking House Hotel in 1993 when he was already a major star and had a growing global fanbase. Under his ownership, the hotel quickly became a popular draw for fans visiting Donegal, with many coming specifically to see the place associated with him. We also can’t forget our beautiful surrounds of the Wild Atlantic Way.

Viking Hotel is such a hidden gem in Donegal. The hotel is incredibly comfortable, private, and located in a truly privileged area, with beautiful crystal-clear beaches within walking distance. The food was absolutely spectacular, we ended up having lunch there and dining there every single night because every dish was so delicious and well prepared. – Mari

Great to see this place back up and running. Have stayed here a number of times of the years and always loved it, but noticed it was closed to guests for a period. Once I seen it was back open under new management I did not delay in booking. Both Finbar and Lena have done a fantastic job in getting this gem back to its former glory. – Shane

Staff were welcoming from first arrival, and throughout the stay, the food was excellent and the views were lovely. Definitely recommend for just a meal, to stay. It was quiet and peaceful in the room, good atmosphere in the bar and restaurant. – Joe

Cruit Island golf club should be on every golfer’s bucket list of courses to play. The Viking House located overlooking the island, represents the perfect place to stay and enjoy some brilliant Donegal hospitality whilst enjoying a game or two. The owners Finbar and Lena deserve a lot of credit for creating a very welcoming atmosphere whilst catering for all your needs. Great food, great craic, great place. – David

We played golf nearby and stopped in unannounced on a Sunday evening. Everything was fantastic. The food, the service, the enthusiasm all made for a wonderful evening. – Golfer

Our foursome stopped in for dinner after a round at Cruit Island. This was unquestionably our most memorable meal in Ireland. Delicious food. Lovely service in a warm, clean and inviting place. Highly recommend. – Steve, Chicago
